This year, Karina Kruger steered the BHHS Academic Decathlon team to unprecedented success, leading them to claim first place in Division III at the California Academic Decathlon State Finals in March 2023. The team, made up of talented students, competed against 54 other teams statewide, marking BHHS’s highest placement since 2013. The decathlon consists of tests in ten subjects, along with prepared and impromptu speeches, interviews, and a SuperQuiz. This year’s team showcased their knowledge and teamwork in achieving a remarkable outcome.

During her high school tenure, Kruger has not only excelled academically but has also received numerous accolades. In the California Academic Decathlon, she earned a silver medal in art, while her teammates also garnered various medals across multiple subjects. Kruger’s commitment to education extends beyond her own studies. She generously gave her time to tutor elementary school students, enhancing their learning experiences and reinforcing her dedication to community service. Moreover, Kruger gained practical experience through an internship at the Beverly Hills City Manager’s Office under Nancy Hunt-Coffey, who acknowledged Kruger’s exceptional research and analytical skills, likening them to those typically seen in graduate students.
