Beverly Hills – Rising opera star Golda Zahra is set to perform a free concert at Beverly Canon Gardens on Saturday, May 24, 2025. The event will commence at 6:30 p.m., inviting the public for an evening of diverse musical offerings in an outdoor setting.
The concert, which will feature Zahra alongside a six-musician jazz ensemble, promises to deliver a blend of popular Italian-Neapolitan songs, jazz classics, Broadway hits, and operatic arias. Among the pieces Zahra will perform are “Quando me’n vo” from Puccini’s “La Boheme,” a Neapolitan classic “Mattinata,” as well as songs like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “Memory” from CATS, and “I Could Have Danced All Night” from My Fair Lady. The concert will conclude with an encore of “O mio babbino caro” from Gianni Schicchi.
Golda Zahra, a 25-year-old singer honored by her Persian heritage and known professionally by her middle name, “Zahra,” meaning flower or beauty in Farsi, aims to make opera more accessible. Inspired by her childhood experiences with opera, particularly performances of “The Magic Flute,” and urged on by her parents, Zahra began her formal journey into the arts at a young age. After showcasing her affinity for music through her mimicked arias, her parents enrolled her in piano lessons. Since then, Zahra has adopted a performance philosophy that emphasizes emotional connection, intending to evoke deep feelings in her audience.
Guests attending the concert are encouraged to arrive early to secure seating on the lawn, bringing along blankets and low chairs for comfort during the performance. Beverly Canon Gardens is located at 241 N. Canon Drive, Beverly Hills, offering a picturesque backdrop for the concert.
Zahra’s rise in the opera world has been marked by significant accolades. In 2015, she was the recipient of the prestigious Los Angeles Music Center’s Spotlight Award. More recently, she was named a finalist in Rai Radio’s “Voci in Barcaccia” international opera competition in 2022, where she also recorded a CD for RAI Radio. Her performances have graced notable venues such as Walt Disney Concert Hall, Royce Hall at UCLA, and The Saban Theatre, showcasing her talents to diverse audiences.
Moreover, Zahra’s collaborations with esteemed groups, including The Hollywood Chamber Orchestra and LA Opera, have further solidified her status as a promising artist in the industry. Her operatic journey was nurtured from the age of four, heavily influenced by her parents’ passion for the genre. She pursued classical piano and musical theater studies at the Colburn Music School, where she forged a significant partnership with maestro Daniel Suk, a collaboration that continues to flourish.
In addition to her performance at Beverly Canon Gardens, Zahra has scheduled several upcoming concerts. Audiences can look forward to her artistry at St. Monica Catholic Church on June 13, at BroadStage on July 12, and an August 16 performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall, where she will portray the character Liù in Puccini’s “Turandot.”
