Marathon Burger Expands to Venice Beach Boardwalk

News Summary

Marathon Burger, known for its smashburgers, is opening a new location at Venice Beach Boardwalk. This follows the successful launch of its first restaurant in March. The new outlet will offer a simplified menu catering to beachgoers, including breakfast options and late-night deliveries. The strategic expansion aims to capitalize on opportunities in a changing restaurant landscape. The opening is eagerly awaited by the local community as it replaces a previous establishment.

Venice, CA

Marathon Burger, a smashburger restaurant, will open its second location on the Venice Beach Boardwalk on Saturday, May 31, 2025. The new outlet comes on the heels of a successful launch of its first restaurant on Melrose Avenue in March 2025.

The Venice Beach facility will be situated alongside the pickup basketball courts and the iconic Muscle Beach, taking the place of a former LA burger restaurant known as the Window. The opening of this new location signals a strategic expansion for the restaurant, which originally started as a pop-up operation in the old Johnny Rockets site in Fairfax in Fall 2024 while renovations were underway.

Menu Offerings and Operating Hours

The Venice location will adopt a simplified menu designed to reduce customer wait times. Offerings will include classic smash burgers, hot wings, and a vegan patty. Notable additions to the menu include a new double cheeseburger topped with grilled onions, lettuce, Fresno peppers, pickles, ketchup, mustard, and a proprietary sauce.

Breakfast will be available daily from 7 AM to noon, featuring items such as French toast waffles, a breakfast sandwich, orange juice, and coffee. To further appeal to beachgoers, the restaurant will serve ice cream as a refreshing treat along the busy Boardwalk.

Unlike the Melrose location, the Venice restaurant will not include salads, mushroom burgers, or milkshakes on its menu, streamlining service for customers. Outdoor seating will also be offered to allow patrons to enjoy their meals in the scenic beachside atmosphere.

Business Expansion and Future Plans

Samiel “Blacc Sam” Asghedom, who operates Marathon Burger, is the brother of the late rapper Nipsey Hussle. Both Asghedom and Hussle have a legacy tied to promoting economic independence for Black entrepreneurs through their Marathon brand. Asghedom has indicated plans for additional Marathon Burger locations in the future, although specific sites have yet to be disclosed.

The decision to open the Venice location occurred earlier than initially projected, as Asghedom noted the importance of seizing opportunities when they arise. The Venice Beach Boardwalk has recently experienced a high turnover of restaurants, hinting at a challenging business environment for dining establishments in the area.

Operating Hours and Location

The Marathon Burger at Venice Beach will operate from 7 AM to 10 PM daily, with a late-night delivery service available from 10 PM to 3 AM. This service aims to cater to the late-night crowd looking for quality food in the area.

The exact address for the new location is 1827 Oceanfront Walk, Venice, CA, 90291. As the restaurant prepares for its grand opening, the local community is eagerly anticipating the return of another beloved burger establishment to the vibrant Venice Beach Boardwalk.
