The creators are set to sign copies at the event, which has already sold out, reflecting high anticipation within the comic book community.
The illustrated novel “The Real Superheroes of Beverly Hills” is set to make its debut at Comic Con International in San Diego from July 24-27, 2025. This exciting release is the brainchild of writer Steve Stern and artist Jim Fletcher, both of whom have extensive backgrounds in the comic book industry.
Steve Stern is widely recognized for co-creating the cult favorite “Zen Intergalactic Ninja.” He has also developed several other comic properties, such as “Shygirl” and “Frickin’ Butt-Kickin’ Zombie Ants.” Additionally, he authored celebrated graphic novels like “Beowulf” and “A Christmas Carol,” published by the U.K.’s Markosia. On the other hand, Jim Fletcher has an impressive portfolio himself, having previously served as a creative director for DC Direct. His notable works include “DC Ame-Comi,” “DC Cover Girls,” and the co-creation of “DC Bombshells.” Their collaboration dates back years, stemming from when Fletcher designed packaging for Zen video games and action figures.
“The Real Superheroes of Beverly Hills” combines elements of action, humor, and satire, presenting a contemporary and engaging perspective on the traditional superhero narrative. The story revolves around four high school friends—Rich, Heather, Mikey, and Joseph—who acquire extraordinary superpowers following a cosmic event that occurs at the Griffith Observatory. Their newfound abilities include telekinesis, energy blasts, light illusions, and super strength, which quickly catapult them to viral stardom.
Complications arise for the friends when a slick television producer approaches them with an offer to star in their own unscripted series. While navigating the complexities of public life and increasing fame—including dealing with paparazzi and public pressure—the teens also face formidable challenges. They must confront a crazed tech villain and his army of AI-enhanced henchmen, testing both their abilities as heroes and their friendships.
The excitement surrounding this novel has not gone unnoticed; Ken F. Levin, founder and publisher of 1First Comics, expressed enthusiasm about including the illustrated novel in their 1First Books imprint. Stern and Fletcher are scheduled to sign copies and engage with fans at designated booths during the Comic-Con event, specifically at 1First Comics booth (#2001) and Flippitoons booth (#1735).
