Beverly Hills – The Rotary Club of Beverly Hills honored JR Dzubak with the prestigious Fourth Annual Stanley Black Philanthropy & Inspiration Award during a meeting on June 9. This award is presented to a Rotarian who exemplifies the spirit of service, generosity, and community impact, reflecting the legacy of Stanley Black. The award, selected by Club President Fire Chief Greg Barton, highlights Dzubak’s exceptional dedication and leadership in the community, aligning with the Rotary motto “Service Above Self.”

The recognition comes with a significant stipulation: a charitable donation of $10,000 will be made in Dzubak’s name to a nonprofit organization of his choosing, funded equally by Janis Black-Warner, Doug Warner, and the Rotary Club of Beverly Hills. The event was further enriched by the presence of Stanley Black, a 92-year-old philanthropist, adding a meaningful touch to the ceremony.

In addition to honoring Dzubak, the Rotary Club also recognized five outstanding city employees from various departments, including the Beverly Hills Fire Department, Police Department, and city government, during their annual awards ceremony held on June 2 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The honorees received their awards thanks to a generous donation from Max Factor III, which has supported the event for over a decade.

This year’s distinguished honorees included Beverly Hills Police Department’s Officer Billy Blair, who was awarded Officer of the Year for his vital contributions during high-stakes incidents. Lisa Karson, an executive assistant within the BHPD, received the Civilian of the Year award for her proactive initiatives and invaluable behind-the-scenes efforts.

Other recipients were BHFD firefighter and paramedic Nathan Foster, who chose to dedicate his award funds to the Core of Knowledge Literacy and Learning Center, aimed at assisting students with dyslexia. Melissa Gomez and Raminta Ivanilova were also recognized; Gomez for her diligence and task anticipation, and Ivanilova for her commitment and leadership within IT services.

Following the awards, Greg Barton was set to be sworn in as the president of the Beverly Hills Rotary Club on July 8, aiming to continue the club’s century-long tradition of service and philanthropy in the community. As the club approaches its 100th anniversary, Barton expressed commitment to upholding the club’s mission of “service above self.”

The Rotary Club of Beverly Hills, established 100 years ago, strives to support local charitable efforts, including relationships with organizations such as the Children’s Burn Foundation. Assistant fire chief positions have been created to assist Barton in managing both his responsibilities as fire chief and his new role as Rotary president.

Globally, Rotary International was founded in 1905 and now comprises over 46,000 clubs with a membership exceeding 1.4 million. The organization’s focus is on addressing global issues while its local chapters, like the Beverly Hills club, work towards fulfilling community needs and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
