The Beverly Hills Gateway neighborhood is located on the outside of the municipal boundaries of Beverly Hills. The Flats and Beverly Crest are separated by a transitional slope of the Santa Monica Mountains.

The layout of the town contradicts the standard urban grid system, with lazily meandering, broad, tree-lined roadways. Homes in this area are set back from the road on huge lots with big, always well-kept front lawns. Pools are almost always seen in backyards. Tennis courts are also widely available.

The Beverly Hills Gateway region is well-known among film and entertainment fans, if not by name, then by the famed Beverly Hills Hotel. Its Polo Lounge and spa are popular with both tourists and locals.
