Los Angeles County, California
Beverly Hills residents elect five members of the City Council to four-year terms. The Council then elects a mayor and vice mayor from among its members, with both roles alternating every year. At meetings, the mayor serves as the presiding officer and the ceremonial representative of the Council at public events.
The City Council is in charge of defining policies, setting an annual budget, implementing local laws, and providing the city manager with a vision and goals. The City Council selects the Mayor and Vice Mayor from among themselves on a rotational basis.
