Wilshire Boulevard Construction Leading to D Line Station Closures

Construction work along Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles

News Summary

In June, significant construction along Wilshire Boulevard will temporarily close two key D Line stations – Wilshire/Western and Wilshire/Normandie – until late July. Shuttle services will operate to ensure continuity for passengers. Weekend closures are also planned, impacting traffic as the extension of the D Line progresses. Motorists are advised to be mindful of detours and extended travel times.

Los Angeles – Significant construction work along Wilshire Boulevard this June is prompting the temporary closure of two key D Line stations—Wilshire/Western and Wilshire/Normandie—until July 25. The closures are part of ongoing efforts to extend the D Line, which will ultimately add seven new stations stretching from Wilshire/Western to Westwood.

During this period, shuttle bus services will be operational for affected passengers. Bus Shuttle 855, along with Metro Lines 720 and 20, will provide transportation between the Wilshire/Western and Wilshire/Vermont stations, ensuring continuity of service. Additionally, the frequency of B Line service between Union Station and Wilshire/Vermont will be increased from every 12 minutes to every 8 minutes to accommodate the changes.

Metro has also scheduled a series of weekend closures on Wilshire Boulevard as part of the infrastructure work. Notable weekend closures include:

  • Wilshire/Fairfax from June 13-16, closing from San Diego Way to Spaulding Avenue.
  • Wilshire/La Brea from June 27-30, with closures between Mansfield and Cloverdale avenues.
  • Wilshire/Western closure on an unannounced weekend in July, between Western Avenue and Saint Andrews Place.

These weekend closures will begin on Fridays at 9 p.m. and will reopen by 6 a.m. on Mondays.

In addition to the station and weekend closures, various construction activities are happening across Wilshire Boulevard, including ongoing street restoration on the north side near the Wilshire/La Cienega station, where two lanes remain open in each direction between La Cienega and San Vicente boulevards. There is also a planned closure on June 7 for westbound traffic at San Vicente Boulevard from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. to facilitate irrigation line installation.

Further preparations are underway for the future La Cienega station, with LA Metro testing electrical generators on June 7 at the entrance plaza. Construction work at the Wilshire/Rodeo station continues, utilizing K-rail enclosures for support. Although street renovations are ongoing, two lanes of traffic will stay open along Wilshire Boulevard between Beverly and Crescent drives, even though left turns from westbound Wilshire Boulevard onto South Cañon Drive will be restricted.

Elsewhere, the AKA Alley has recently reopened to traffic, providing some relief to those navigating the construction zones. At the Century City/Constellation station, crews are scheduling to remove deck panels and repair the street surface, with the anticipated work duration being about two months starting in July. This effort is set to proceed in five organized phases to minimize disruption.

Motorists are urged to pay attention to detour recommendations and prepare for extended travel times in affected areas due to these changes. For any inquiries related to the project, a 24-hour hotline at (213) 922-6934 is available, along with contact via email for specific project-related questions.

As Los Angeles continues to modernize its subway system, these construction efforts represent a significant step towards improving transportation options for residents and visitors alike.
